Outstanding Student 2010: Ana Diaz

Ana Diaz, a recent graduate of Withrow International High School, surpassed CYC's high standards with perfect attendance, well above-average grades, commitment to helping others and dedication to learning and growing in her involvement with the CYC mentoring program.

Ana has been a dedicated participant in the LUX Tigers mentoring program for the past four years. Her involvement has inspired her to become an active volunteer with various local organizations such as the Drop Inn Center. She has excellent leadership skills and is very socially aware, acting as president of the Art-Environment Club which promotes recycling. Ana has also been involved in Kicking It International, a program at Withrow that helps people with mental disabilities.

Ana constantly impresses her teachers and peers with all of her accomplishments. She has maintained a 4.6 GPA, was valedictorian of her class and also managed to earn six college credits in high school through advanced level coursework.

"Since that first visit to Luxottica, I've never had to wonder about Ana's commitment to the program. She's benefited from the available resources, opportunities and lifelong lessons the program offers," says Carman Toler, Ana's mentor coordinator.

Ana plans to attend Xavier University.
