Our college readiness programs are varied and far-reaching, providing both motivational and academic support.
Talent Search:
Launched in 1991 at CYC, the United States Department of Education-funded Talent Search identifies and encourages over 1,200 qualified students to complete secondary school and take the next steps to a postsecondary education. Talent Search advisors are on-site in Cincinnati Public Schools working with students seeking educational and admissions assistance.
GEARUP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs):
GEARUP college advisors work on-site with students in CPS high schools to help qualified students prepare, pursue, and succeed in postsecondary education. Federally funded, GEARUP partners CYC with:
-
the University of Cincinnati
-
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
-
Cincinnati Public Schools
-
Parents for Public Schools of Greater Cincinnnati
Project REACH (Realizing Educational & Career Hopes), CYC's AmeriCorps Program:
Members work with 30 eleventh and twelfth grade students in small group and individual settings to provide information and instruction on how to explore educational opportunities and navigate the college application and financial aid process. Additionally, the members act as mentors, providing the benefit of peer support in college preparation by using themselves as examples of peers who attended and graduated from college.
First Degree - A College Success Program:
First Degree continues the support for students moving to the next phase of their life in college. The program offers a summer transition program, success coaches, FAFSA and scholarship renewal and application assistance, career development to help find internships and co-op jobs, e-newsletters filled with useful college info, and leadership development.
College Resource Center (CRC):
CYC operates several community-based College Resource Centers. These centers are a one-stop community resource for information on careers, colleges, financial aid for college, and scholarships. CRC staff and volunteers are located at 2 sites, Main Library and Longworth Hall.
