Your support contributes to success for students like Betty.

Betty, a proud member of Oyler High School’s first graduating class, has benefited from a Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC) college access program for the past two years.

Betty was one of the first students to be really excited about CYC’s Project REACH (AmeriCorps) coming to Oyler in her junior year.  At the informational meeting for online students, she stayed to chat for over an hour about her plans after high school and what she needed to do to get there.  She has utilized many services through Project REACH such as ACT preparation, career searches and college tours. Betty even revealed how helpful the ACT preparation had been for her—she felt much more comfortable taking the test than many of her peers appeared to be.

Betty shares, "Project REACH has helped me to stay focused on my goals and to keep my priorities straight."

Betty lives in a full house—she is the fourth eldest of nine children and has cared for her five younger siblings much of her life. The leadership she displays in her home life translates to her academic life and beyond.

Currently Betty is still working with her AmeriCorps advisors to take the Compass—a test similar to ACT that is favored by most two-year colleges. She is deciding between Raymond Walters and Cincinnati State for the fall and plans to eventually become a nurse.

Ellen, Betty’s CYC Project REACH advisor, shares, “Betty is a dedicated, driven and dynamic student. She knows the value of higher education and has demonstrated that she has the perseverance to be successful in life. She has a passion and desire to help others that will be invaluable as she works towards a degree in nursing.”

Now more than ever, students like Betty need your support.  Won’t you join us to invest in the success of students?
