CYC Awarded Three Grants for College Access and Mentoring OCAN, Department of Education, and Governor's Office funding allow for expanded and enhanced services to students

The Cincinnati Youth Collaborative (CYC) has been awarded three separate grants from the U.S. Department of Education Safe and Drug Free Schools, OCAN Invest in Success program and the Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives. These awards will allow for expanded and enhanced student services by way of mentoring and college readiness.

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a $200,000 three year grant to the CYC to serve 4th to 8th grade students living in rural or urban high crime areas.

The Governor’s Office of Faith Based and Community Initiatives has awarded the CYC one of 12 grants for $250,000. The program called Strengthening Ohio Families Initiative (SOFI) Mentoring Vulnerable Youth Project will span 15 months and supports mentoring programs to youth who reside in low-income households.

And finally, The Ohio College Access Network (OCAN) recently awarded CYC’s College Access program $20,000 for its Community Based College Resource Centers.  Funding will support the continuation of current college access services and the opening of a new College Resource Center site this fall at the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati. The College Resource Centers primarily serve first generation and low income students from the Cincinnati Art and Technology Center program, visitors to sites at the Main, Corryville, Walnut Hills, and West End branches of the public library, and starting in Fall 2008, visitors to the Urban League.

A leader in youth development programs since 1987, the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative creates, facilitates and supports positive educational, social and economic programs to benefit the region’s youth, principally Cincinnati Public School–age and young-adult populations.  Focusing on two primary areas—Mentoring and College Access—CYC brings together people, institutions, and other community resources to help youth graduate from high school, enter post-secondary education, or obtain employment.  Additional information on CYC can be found at www.cycyouth.org
